Inhalt

Franz Seitz was one of the best-known German film producers who experienced and helped shape the ups and downs of German post-war film. He gave the cinema immortal rascals and louts, but also married it to high literature, such as that of Thomas Mann, and brought home Germany's first post-war Oscar for The Tin Drum. He is now in the office with his granddaughter Anni Seitz. Meanwhile a documentary filmmaker herself, she immerses herself in his work in search of his work and illuminates his film and family stories. She now directs many questions that she was no longer able to ask him to his private and professional companions: including Volker Schlöndorff, Hansi Kraus, Uschi Glas and his sons, so that not only does a very personal portrait emerge, but also a panorama of German film between awakening and crisis. A life in show business – Franz Seitz knew how to entertain and enchant with his stories. He also regularly wrote and directed screenplays - as a sophisticated narrator he liked to keep unpleasant truths or even his personal secrets hidden. This film is touching due to its honesty and its closeness to the protagonists, and it is exhilarating due to its lightness and humor in a style that results not least from the playful use of old film clips, photos and archive materials.
